Tier 1 health Customer B2B Upgrade For Business Critical Applications
Overview
Parallel upgrade project. Scope Included creation of DEV, PROD and TEST environments parallel to the existing ones, Perform multiple metadata iterations, Perform Upgrade to the latest Informatica B2B Code (PowerCenter, Data Exchange, ILM, Managed File Transfer: OEM (Cleo) and Own) than go live in each of the environments, with minimal to no business Impact. Main versions of Code included were PowerCenter 10.1.0, DataExchange 10.1, upgrade to PowerCenter 10.2.0 and Data Exchange 10.2.2.

Issues Faced & Solutions Found
Manual Operations Taking too longer than accepted. Solution: Automation
Issue: Multiple operations that Informatica platform force Manual operation (groups, privileges, Migration of code, took longer than the customer could afford.
Solution: Automation Added at Coide, Script and Database level to enable migration smoothly and swiftly.
User Testing Taking longer, risking go live. Solution: Extended Testing, Leading
Issue:
Due to conflicts of Priorities across projects, testers were not provided enough time to plan proper testing as well as to execute those.
Solution: PartnerBO reached out and with Customer approval, performed additional functional testing, to further get to the workflow implementation level, alleviating some of the user testing required.
Nature of Upgrade Path not allowing for simple Data Exchange Metadata Migration. Solution: Intermediate installations
Issue:
As this was a parallel upgrade approach, prior to go live multiple metadata iterations were supposed to happen, and a final one prior to go live. Issue is that there is no way to directly upgrade medata code for Data Exchange, like its done for PowerCenter as example.
Solution: PartnerBO perform several iterations in DEV, with multiple java and DataExchange installations, and perfected a set of migration steps. Those were repeated successfully in TEST and PROD.
Results & Benefits
All issues were resolved in non prod environments (DEV and TEST), than PROD Installation, Upgrade and GoLive was performed. Within Few hours from Go Live Start, Customer was already fully operational.
Conclusion
B2B upgrade was completed successfully. All scope items were completed. Acceptance testing completed successfully.
